The principals of Islington Capital Partners, John Cullinane and Paul Spinale, have known each other for over 40 years and have closed over 50 transactions during their 50 years of combined investing experience.

Since its formation in 2005, Islington Capital Partners has been owned and managed by John Cullinane and Paul Spinale. Each of the principals is intimately involved in all aspects of the firm’s operations, including transaction sourcing and execution, portfolio company management and board participation, capital-raising, investor relations and fund administration.


John Cullinane

Prior to co-founding Islington Capital Partners, John was President and Chief Executive Officer of BancBoston Capital, where he oversaw all aspects of a $5.5 billion private equity portfolio. He joined BancBoston Capital in 1987 and spent most of his career directly involved in the sourcing, due diligence, structuring, execution and management of lower middle market buyout investments. Beginning in 1998 until his promotion to President and CEO in 2002, John managed several venture capital portfolios.

John graduated from Harvard College in 1986 and received an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1993. He is married with three children.

Paul Spinale

Prior to co-founding Islington Capital Partners, Paul was a Managing Director of Audax Group's $500 million private equity fund. This fund targeted investments in middle market companies that faced operating challenges and/or involved particularly complex transaction dynamics. Paul's primary role involved the sourcing, due diligence, structuring, execution and management of investments. He also had a variety of responsibilities relating to the management of a 20-person investment team. Prior to his position at Audax, he worked as a strategy consultant at Bain & Company beginning in 1985 and joined Bain Capital in 1992. At Bain Capital, from 1992 to 1999, Paul focused on lower middle market private equity investments.

Paul graduated from Amherst College in 1985 and received an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1990. He is married with three children.
